Big Shot Advent Activity Calendar using a Big Shot and lots of lovely Stampin' Up! product!

20 Nov

Here is my version of an Advent Activity Calendar….

The idea is that you pop a little activity into each of the pockets in the countdown to Christmas.  I am going to put different things like trips to visit the Christmas lights, treasure hunts for candy canes and making gingerbread in mine.  I am not going to fill them all in advance as I would rather have a bit more of an idea what I need to plan for in the pocket than forgetting that a baking activity falls on a busy afternoon.  I can see that this advent calendar will promote meaningful family memories and I’m excited for Demember 1 so that we can start using it!

My first step in making this project was to decide which DSP (Designer Series Paper) that I would like to use.  In deciding this paper my colour combination could be easily decided as I would just pull colours out of the designs.  I went with the cute “Festival of prints” Designer Series Paper Stack.  This paper comes in a pad that is 11.4 x 16.5cm, you get a whopping 48 sheets, which is 4 each of 12 double sided designs for only $11.95.  You will find the paper on page 20 of the Holiday Catalogue.  There is so much choice.  Even after using it on this project I still have heaps of DSP leftover!  The Cardstock that I used was in the coordinating colours of Lucky Limeade, Cherry Cobbler, Island Indigo, Crumb Cake and Early Expresso.

Here is a list of items that I have used to make my Advent Calendar…It was made for the recent Stampin’ Up! Heartfelt Event, and as I was showcasing what was possible with the Big Shot my calendar does use a whole lot of Big Shot product!

Big Shot

Big Shot Die Cutting Machine (page 186)

Typeset Alphabet Bigz (page 192)

Holiday Ornamets Framelits (page 3 of the Holiday Catalogue)

Designer Rosette Bigz XL (page 194) Use with the extended cutting pads on page 186, you may get a better result if you use a extended premium crease pad on the non-cutting side, but see how you go, I use the two cutting pads in my Big Shot for a great result but every Big Shot has a slightly different tension.

Classic Inks in Crumb Cake and Chocolate Chip.

Tools

Silicone Craft Sheet (page 31 of the Holiday Catalogue) and a hot glue gun.

Paper Trimmer (page 180)

I used fabric from the “essentials designer fabric” collection on page 170.  The frame was one that I had here that wasn’t being used. I gave it a coat of white paint and sanded it back to look shabby.  The pockets have been attached with hot glue.

I hope you like it.  I’d be happy to take any close up photos or answer any questions you may have.

Christmas Wreath

18 Nov

I am so in love with the Designer Rosette Bigz XL die (page 194 Main Catalogue) for the Big Shot that is exclusive to Stampin’ Up!  Along with the Silicone Craft Sheet  (page 31 Holiday Catalogue) and a hot glue gun you have super easy Rosette’s, making a project like this extremely easy.

I was trying to make this wreath on a foam ring, it really wasn’t working out for me but fortunately my friend Deb had this twig wreath that I could steal.  The upside is that I now have a foam ring that I can recreate Sophie’s beautiful flower wreath on that we saw at Regionals yesterday!

The bow on the top of the wreath is made using Designer Fabric from page 4 of the Holiday Catalogue called “Candlelight Christmas”.  As the name suggests it is a perfect match to the Specialty Designer Series Paper “Candlelight Christmas” which is also on page 4.  If you would like to make a bow like the one I have done you can find a very comprehensive tutorial here: http://patches.typepad.com/notes_from_the_patch/2011/06/hair-bows.html You will see that the tutorial is for a ribbon, but it is a great overview of how to get the end result.  I used the Fabric Adhesive Roll on page 177 to get a nice folded long piece of fabric without any seams, this also gave the fabric a great weight and dimension to hold the shape of the bow well.

The Rosettes have also got features from the Delicate Doilies Sizzlits (found on page 191).  (Use this Sizzlit with a sheet of wax paper on the die cutting surface between your cardstock and the die to assist with removing all the cut out pieces.)  I love my Antique Brads and they are featured on this project also (you’ll find the brads on page 174).  I have also used the Snow Flurry Bigz die on page 14 of the Holiday Catalogue.

The rosettes were attached to the wreath with hot glue.

I’d love to answer any questions that you have about the this project and I would really recommend you give it a go. Once I got started it came together really quickly.  Using the same pack of Designer Series Paper (DSP) is a very easy way to ensure that your finished project will be beautifully coordinated with a minimum amount of fuss and stress.

July 6 class, card 5 of 5

25 Jun

Here we are at the final card for my next class. My class participants would know that each class this year has also featured a simple Christmas Card to give them a jump start on their Christmas Cards.  We all know how quickly Christmas creeps up on us each year!

So, here it is…

If I was making this card in bulk I would consider just doing one white Big Shot Top Note layer and just sponging the edge in Old Olive (rather than cut the two layers as I have done here.)

This card is a case of this one by Stasia.

So, that’s it. Hope you can join us!

District 8 – the Hunger Games Party

13 Jun

Howdy all.

This post will bring you details of the game we did at the Hunger Games Party for District 8, their industry is textiles.  This activity was easy!  Let’s pull out the Big Shot and have a play!  Mum had recently taught me a super cool technique with bottle tops so I incorporated it into the project also.

This statement of “may the odds be ever in your favor” is obviously from the Hunger Games and was printed out and then punched out with the 1 inch circle punch.  The bottle tops were pressed in the Big Shot on Tab 1 between two cutting pads.  I then stuck the circle into the bottle lid and covered the image with Mod Podge.  I left them to dry overnight.

I ironed some fusible interfacing to the back of the fabric to give it some added bulk and to stop any fraying.  I then cut it into squares so that the girls would be able to use the Big Shot themselves to cut out their flowers.  We used the flower on the Island Floral Big Shot Die.  They were so excited to do this step and to see how easy it was.

Here are the clever bunch with their projects…we stuck a magnet on the back of the flowers…

Boy worthy.

Here is a card that I think a teenage boy should like… It was cased from one by Deb

It uses the “Need for Speed”, “Word Play” and “Extreme Elements” stamp set.

Another Mixed Bunch…

Here is another card I’ve used with new stuff from the Autumn/Winter Mini.  I think this new pleated satin ribbon is just gorgeous.  It was cased from this one by Mary.

Owls, Owls, Everywhere!

13 May

Have you noticed how owls are popping up everywhere at the moment.  I know that my sister is a big fan of them and I’m going to send this card to her.

Once again I saw this card on Pinterest by Bronwyn and made it for my sample board at our recent launch. It was a super quick card to make…

Thinking of you.

10 May

I was playing around with some new Autumn Winter Mini goodies and morphed a few card designs together and this is what I ended up with…

This card uses some lovely “Twitterplated” Designer Series Paper along with the ”Curly Cute” stamp set and the Heart punches.  It also uses the Big Shot to emboss with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder and cut out the Scallop Circle.  The holes around the edge of the Scallop circle have been made with the small hand held hole punch that we sell through Stampin’ Up!  I think it would make a great Anniversary card.

Hope you like it!

Bring on the bling!

8 May

A technique that we will focus on in my May classes is how to add glitter to a brad.   Here is a card that features that technique (it isn’t a card that we will do in a class, if you like it and want to learn it why not invite me around to demonstrate it to you and a few friends?)

This card also uses the Big Shot to do some embossing (Square lattice and Petals-a-plenty) along with the gorgeous new “Blossom” punch from the Autumn Winter Mini.  I really like the Tempting Turquoise with the Early Expresso, a very striking colour combination.

Bordering on Romance

7 May

Here is a beautiful new Stamp Set from the current Autumn/Winter Mini (speaking of Winter, there is certainly a chill in the air, I’m so grateful my husband has been chopping wood today!).  This Stamp Set is called “Bordering on Romance”, I don’t own it so I was extra happy that Steph used it on her card at a recent team meeting….

We actually used a sponge dauber to build up the colour on the flowers, I think it looks very effective and may be easier for many than a aqua painter or a blender pen.  We used a square punch to get that nice even cut at the bottom of the DSP (which is also from the Mini and is called “Twitterpated”.  The side was cut and embossed using the Big Shot and the “Adorning Accents” Edgelits Dies and the Textured Impressions Embossing Folders.
The sentiment is from “Teeny Tiny Sentiments”.
